Rabbi Michael Rothbaum – A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Lives
When the most recent Iraq war began, I was serving as student rabbi at a wonderful little synagogue in New England. One of the regulars at our monthly Torah study was a World War II veteran – let’s call him Sam. Sam would always bring consideration and deep insight to text study. But more than that, Sam was – and is – a mensh.

Rabbi Michael Rothbaum – Hate Pollution
The young boy was just on his way home, with some iced tea and skittles. The young man was just on his way to teach at the school, with his two sons. Neither one made it home.

Rabbi Michael Rothbaum – Monday Morning Tebowing
Don’t you feel bad for Tom Brady? And Eli Manning. While the two elite quarterbacks were prepping for Super Bowl 46, the media circus that is Tim Tebow pulled into Indianapolis on Thursday. Even though Brady’s Patriots knocked his team out of the playoffs three weeks ago, it was Tebow that needed the police escort.

Rabbi Michael Rothbaum – Food Stamp Religion
As a rabbi, and one who runs a religious school, there’s one topic that keeps coming up in the synagogue. It’s not the one you might think. Occasionally, congregants come to me to discuss theology or Bible. But more often, conversations inevitably involve food. Will there be a lunch after the service? Is it potluck? Will there be snack during religious school? How many times? Will it be nutritious? Tasty? Locally sourced? Gluten free? Will there be enough?
